When does ISO 9001:2026 arrive?

The revision has moved through the formal drafting stages and is scheduled for publication in September 2026. Once it is published, certified organisations enter a three-year transition period that runs until September 2029. During that window you can keep operating under ISO 9001:2015 while you plan and make the changes.

Why is ISO 9001 being revised?

ISO reviews its standards regularly to keep them useful. The 2026 revision builds on the 2015 version and keeps its familiar structure of clauses 4 to 10. The changes are refinements rather than a redesign, with clearer wording and a stronger emphasis on modern themes such as quality culture, ethics, and the way organisations use technology and data.

Do I have to recertify from scratch?

No. This is a transition, not a fresh certification. You update your quality management system to reflect the revised requirements, then demonstrate the changes to your certification body at a surveillance or recertification audit within the transition period. Most of your system carries over unchanged.

How should I prepare?

• Read the new version when it is published and note where the wording and emphasis have changed.
• Carry out a short gap analysis against your current system to see what needs updating.
• Update your manual and any affected procedures, and brief your team on the changes.
• Plan the transition audit with your certification body inside the three-year window.
